Fertility counselling is a friendly discussion with a medical expert or a specialist to understand and diagnose any infertility issues, and for the specialists to suggest the appropriate treatment.

Anyone who have been trying to get pregnant naturally and have been unsuccessful for a long period of time can opt for fertility counselling. It is the first step towards diagnosing the infertility issues of the couples / partners aspiring to get pregnant and become parents, with the help of advanced medical technologies.

The ability of human beings to reproduce naturally through the act of sexual intercourse is known as fertility.

Infertility is the inability of human beings to reproduce naturally. It can be found in both males and females depending upon various factors that affect their reproductive systems.

Are females the only ones prone to infertility?

Consult a gynaecologist first and then both the partners should go through the relevant counselling sessions, tests and diagnosis process as suggested by the gynaecologist. And if referred to a fertility specialist for treatment, then get fertility counselling first before you go for the actual treatment.

Is there a specialist for treating infertility issues?

Yes. There are specialists to diagnose and treat infertility issues; they are called the fertility specialists, who have acquired special training after successfully completing their specialization education in gynaecology and obstetrics.

Can my partner come along for the fertility counselling?

Partners are encouraged to attend the fertility counselling sessions together, so the specialist can get a clear understanding of the origin of the infertility issue, by discussing the factors that affect the reproductive ability of the individuals.

Are there any tests involved in fertility counselling?

No. There are no tests involved during fertility counselling; it is just a verbal discussion. However, post the counselling session, if you wish to proceed further with the treatments, then there may be a series of relevant tests conducted required for the procedures.
